To a sister on her wedding day.

To a sister on her wedding day.
To a sister on her wedding day.
I can’t believe the day is here.
To a sister on her wedding day.
I used to stare at you with wide eyes when I was 10. In those long formal dresses, you wore to high school dances. I didn’t think it was possible for someone to look that beautiful. But you did. Fast forward the past few years, and here you are, proving everything I knew about looking beautiful in a long formal dress, oh so very wrong.

I am not a very open person. But when I find the time to convey my thoughts and messages into words where I can, I am a very fragile open book. Words and communicating them come effortlessly to me when I don’t have to physically say them. So, to you, a sister, on your wedding day. Please know this.

Over the past few months of ‘wedding-build-up’, you have been the most relaxed and natural bride-to-be I have ever witnessed. I held back on asking you a million questions I had about it, not because I was scared to, but because for some reason I trusted you. I knew that every detail, every decision and every thought that could possibly occur around such a day, was already done, and done in a way that made YOUR soul happy.

I emphasise the word YOUR, because I have seen many women go through big decisions like this being swayed by what’s online, what’s the ‘in’ thing to do, what s/he advises you to do… You have taken all of these in your stride and have followed your heart to ensure this day, is the perfect day for both you and your soon to be husband. I hope you see that. I hope you see that the next 24 hours are the most perfect reflection of what sets your soul alight with happiness, love and memories.

To a sister, on her wedding day. When you asked me to be one of your bridesmaids, my heart pranced a little. It even felt a little taken aback. I have always been your little sister. I am the sister who by role, was the one who would ask the questions, the one who would ask for support and advice. But there you were, still 7 years ahead of me, asking me to accompany you and support you, by standing next to you on this special day. Our relationship has grown leaps and bounds from the days of shouting matches at 7 and 14 years old, to awkward glares at 11 and 18, to boyfriend conversations at 20 and 27. Please know, that at 26 and almost 33, the fact that I get to recall this incredibly intimate day as a memory of a bridesmaid, to yours and your partners' wedding, will be truly unforgettable for me. I don’t think you realise what an incredibly special message I acquired from this gesture. Thank you, sister, for letting me be part of this day.

Over the next few hours, the day you get to look back on every year with your husband, I want to wish you this. I hope this day for you is everything you ever dreamed of it being and more. I hope you smile until your cheeks ache, I hope you dance until your feet hurt, I hope your heart is so full of love you can feel it beating in your chest, I hope you recognise and accept that you are the most beautiful girl in the room, I hope every sense you have is given an opportunity to come alive today and I hope that you hold your partners hand and look into his eyes and get excited to envision forever with him. I truly hope that today is the best day of your life so far because this is only the beginning of one incredible journey.

I could go on about what I hope for the both of you for the future, but I won’t. Because today is your wedding day. A mere 24 hours to the rest of your life as a wife.

Sister, thank you for letting me witness this day, for letting me be a part of this day, all dressed up, not standing behind you, but next to you.
To a sister on her wedding day.
A lifetime of love and happiness, I wish this both to my brother in law and best friend in blood,

my sister on her wedding day.

  1. We continue to receive gushing feedback from our guests about this place. The manager and his team from New York wedding venues really went above and beyond to ensure a seamless, special and magical event. I felt we got really lucky when we found out this space.
